The unfortunate list of Polanski sympathizers…
This may be old news, but it should be reiterated considering many of these filmmakers have recently released critically acclaimed films. A number of prominent filmmakers had signed a petition protesting the detainment of Polanski on the grounds that he was “on his way to a film festival where he was due to receive an award for his career in filmmaking.” Like Slate said, they thought that a film festival was a safe zone “like a base in tag.” Some of the creepers who signed it are:
Darren Aronofsky, Woody Allen, David Lynch, Tilda Swinton, Pedro Almodovar, Gael Garcia Bernal, Martin Scorsese, Wes Anderson, Penelope Cruz, Ariel Dorfman, Guillermo del Toro, Wong Kar Waï, Monica Bellucci, Julian Schnabel, Steven Soderbergh, and more.
This list is frustrating.
What Polanski did was rape. She was only 13, it was by no means consensual, and he drugged her. Regardless of his work, he is a rapist. Profession or caliber of work has no influence on this fact.
Remember this list next time you think about watching one of their films or supporting them with your wallet.
