mohandasgandhi: Over 1,500,000 teens sleep in the streets on any given night in the United States.  There are over 6,000 in my city alone.  These numbers are estimated to have gone up by 50% since 2002. I can’t recommend volunteering at a homeless shelter enough.  It’s been one of the most rewarding experiences of my life and I met so many amazing and wonderful people and was fortunate enough to hear many more incredible stories.  I have never been given so much thanks nor have I ever felt more appreciated.  I picked one shelter and stuck with it but there are so many people out there that need help and the number of volunteer workers has dramatically been dropping over the years.  If we put a little effort in, I think we would literally astound ourselves after we see what we’re able to do.
